Emily Jenkins plays with words that tie together greyhounds and groundhogs. The words in the book are simple (in fact the hardest words are greyhound and groundhog). Can you find similarities between the two animals? The repetitive and rhyming in words make it fun for young children. The book is for children aged 3 to 7 years-old. I would say it is good for the younger spectrum or 7-year-olds who are just beginning to read. Hazel found it a bit boring even with her reading it to me. The words however were fun and easy to read.

The watercolor illustrations are fun and beautiful. They help the words dance along the pages and bring the wordplay to life. This is the perfect book for pre-readers and beginning readers to be introduced to wordplay. They rhymes and similar words: round, ground, hound, around, sound, astound, ... make it even more fun. It is fun to read aloud and watch the two animals go into a frenzy with each other.

If you have a pre-reader or emerging reader I hope you will check this book out. It is fun and makes learning to read even more exciting.
